The background is a copy of a papyrus manuscript of First John. It was copied from Family 13 and was scribed in about the first century. (So it is regarded as having high authenticity and accuracy). The Greeks of a few thousand years ago have often been seen as a well educated and knowledgeable people. In some measure it is due to their formation of libraries where large amounts of information were stored. This has in turn led to the development of present day libraries and also to the preservation of many ancient texts over thousands of years. You will I am sure heard of the term Hellenization. In short, it refers to the spread of the Greek Culture across Europe and north Africa. This was a formative time for our world because of the influence it had on languages and cultures. Our word for photography for example, comes from the Greek word for light, which is but one small example of how ancient Greek has affected our present day language, there are a host of others.
