We still use these on the islands, I certainly could use one when the power goes off. Nice picture Wayne!

I suppose one of the reasons they are still here is because there is no public water supply on Cat Island. Everyone has there own well, though most people use an electric pump. However, the old hand pumps make great subjects for photography.

lol... i thought you were referring to the separator.

There are still a few pumps on wells that I am aware of, very few of them are used, most people have an electric pump.

That basin in front of the pump looks line the top part of a cream separator.

it could be a perspective thing, or perhaps is is larger.  I am not sure but it would not surprise me if they were made in different sizes.  I only was one in use on my parents-in-law farm.
