The Enchanted Forest by WayneBenedet The Enchanted Forest by WayneBenedet
The full title is Path of the Snow Queen - The Enchanted Forest

This is the same place as the path of the Snow Queen. The difference is that the trees have been covered in hoar frost. The picture was murder to take because the extremely flat lighting gave almost no contrast. The only way to make the print appear somewhat normal and pleasing was to boos the contrast and saturation

I just love shots with trees covered in frost and snow, and this one is beautiful.
I can see what you would mean by little contrast, I noticed that snow is like that sometimes because it either reflects all the light, or it's a dull day so the light is really soft.

Anyway, great shot!

thank you,

snow can also easily go in the other direction of too much contrast and range of light. That is really one of the challenges of photographing it. Overcast skys help a lot, but sometimes they make thing too flat.

In any event, i appreciate your visit and your support.

lol....

you might re-think that if you were out here. These days can be very cold, I do not recall how cold it was on that day, but I doubt anyone would pose long for a picture. Frost bite can be a real and dangerous thing.

we get very cold weather every year. -40 is not unusual at least for a couple of weeks in winter. The winds are probably the most trying part though, as they increase the feeling of cold. Windchill is calculated each day in weather reports, and often we are told how fast unprotected skin will freeze. A few seconds is common. I really do not like winter.

Oh... :snowing: that is amazing!! the wind must feel like a sharp knife cutting!! Really ??!!! a few seconds! :wow: that is amazing!!! I believe would not go outside in such cold freezing temps  way ! be inside, open fire place and a nice red wine for the evenings to be sure  brrrrrrr :giggle:

I really like the fireplace and wine idea. Unfortunately we don't have one...but we do have some good Canadian wines.

Luckily, the weather is not that bad for the whole winter. It does though mean that when we are going out, especially in December and January, we check for wind chill and dress accordingly. For myself, the big thing is travelling in winter. I seem to avoid it more and more, in summer if something goes wrong, it is not a big problem, but in winter it could be difficult. Cell phones are helpful, and we carry one and that helps.

I expect that I will make fewer winter photo trips and gravitate again to the studio.

We ahve one... it's wonderful, I love open fire places.. although ours runs on gas, its so well made, it looks real the logs..... so I guess you nearly always have a white Christmas?

I have never not had a white christmas. Which I guess is a cryptic way of saying yes you are right...we always have a white christmas.

I have never lived in a house with a fire place, except for a short period before I got married when I lived with my dad. At that point he heated almost entirely with wood and supplemented with gas. (almost 30 years ago). It was an experience Ihad never really had and it was great, totally surrounded by woods and mountains....fantastic.

thank you very much. Like most of my pictures, it is a thing of chance. I don't usually go to a specific place to take a specific piture, rather I move around and keep myself open to the creative movement around me.
