Prairie Cantibile by WayneBenedet Prairie Cantibile by WayneBenedet
Taken on the class field trip in Virden.

The field trip took place in the afternoon. This left shadow on the east side of the house. My preferred time for this shot would have been mid morning, but as that was not possible, I took what I could get and made the best of it. (As any photographer would and should do).

Thanks again to the people who attended and who were willing to share their unique perspectives of this structure.

It makes me wonder how long it has stood like this and how much longer it will be able to withstand the weather.

Wow, I'd love to find a place like this. I'd love to explore it... where I'd likely have it come crashing down around me either killing me or getting me sued... looks lik they used a lot of stone in that house. Just to learn the history behind it.

I would be able to get the history I would think. maybe on my next trip.

The house has some dangers... like an open well that is 30 feet deep. One must be very careful.

That well could definately prsent a DEEP problem.
I wonder if the house has an actual mailing address. We recently learned that an address connected to an 1872 Cold Revolver is still there. Though it's a Office Depot now the physical address is still active.

There is probably no mailing address. PO boxes are most common. Though there would be a registerd township and range.

Might be worth looking into. If nothing else just for any ineresting discoveries behind it. Perhaps even turn up old photos of how the property might have appeared when it was new. We actually found the owner of the house belonged to a poet Thomas Holmes and he had an old daguerretype photo and a poem he wrote about the house. Granted, that kind of information is pure dumb luck.

Ugh, jet trails, where I live is far away from any city but there is a crossroads in the sky, always a jet or jet trails in the sky it can be aggravating. :)

I do not mind the jet trails, the angles they create add some interest to the image for me.

Great shot. Where is this? I only think that the sky is a little to blue/magenta

Sky is a personal preference. This sky is of course enhanced, but it is not magenta (which would render the sky purple), unless your monitor is not colour balanced. Blue and cyan levels have had the blacks increased, and yellow reduced. Reducing yellow will allow blue to predominate, not magenta. While the sky may appear too blue, I assure you, this level of blue is very common on the prairie but it is difficult to capture.

"Sky is a personal preference" I realise that after I take a look to your other works . anyway, nice work I love the trucks, also, it's a pitty that those great pieces are not found here in Portugal. I think that this kind of rides a such a great tradition

yes the trucks and cars have been a lot of fun. But for now that tour is over. Still, I keep finding such great examples.

the pictures are very good. many of them appear to be over sharpened, but that could be more to do with the site than with the processing. I have seen some of the same here after a picture is posted.

I actually like the shadow makes it a bit better contrast the vibrant colors of a clear day against the poor old tired building the tiredness is enhanced with that shadow =) Great colors focus and contrast not only in building but blues and golds

thanks SC.

The picture turned out well, but processing it was a big challenge, because of the lighting, I had to underexpose, which is normal for my work, but that placed the face of the building in a pretty dark shadow, processing it for detail was a challenge.
