Lean On Me by WayneBenedet Lean On Me by WayneBenedet
It may seem kind of strange to many people further south, but winter still has a firm hold here in Canada, especially out in the west. This picture was taken on April 5th, just a few days after a late winter storm. A lot of melt has already happened so the grass is already showing through. On Sunday, places further west got up to eight inches of the white stuff. We were lucky, we only got about 6 and it is quickly melting.

Nice ! I'm guessing the prevailing direction of the wind is from right to left in this photo. ;)

lol...

I can see why you would think that. Unfortunately the barn is leaning west. I have no idea why, be the yard further west is well treed, so the shelter would have helped.

snow? what snow it's been gone here for a month and already have American Goldfinch's at my feeder they showed up last week.

great picture but there is something "off" in it for me. I think a wider angle to show more of that great open and lonely space you have out there as this shed feels lonely to me. If that makes any sense

yes.

A couple more years or one really heavy snow could probably finish this one too. I have seen about three barns fall in the last few years.

Do you know if the house looked in the direction of the wind?
Reply
:iconwaynebenedet:
WayneBenedet Featured By Owner Apr 5, 2011
the house is actually leaning into the prevailing winds. Which is kind of strange, but then the yard is very sheltered from the west so they would have had very little impact

we get days like that on occasion, but certainly not very many and at night is almost always cools off so there is some relief.

I like where I live for the most part. I don't have to worry about too many extremes or crazy weather stuffs or disasters. Far enough in that hurricanes are not a bother, don't get earthquakes, a random tornado but usually not too bad. No extreme cold, tho a lack of snow, we don't get much of that, but then there is summer and well long stretches of 100F and above... that ... that is the part I do NOT like and it stays up in the 90s even at night. Sweltering it is!

Mostly we don't worry about extreme weather, winter storms of course, but mainly those are an inconvenience unless it is ice, then heat can become a problem if the power goes out, in summer thunder storms can be severe but tornadoes are rare, not unheard of but rare. Mostly this is a great place to live, but I do like heat, and would like many more days of summer. I suppose one of the advantages here is that while we have air conditioning... we almost never use it because most nights cool down. Not that most other people don't use it all summer... we just make different choices.

I would die without my AC, I'm not big on heat, prefer cooler weather... but married a man who is the complete opposite. Camping is a challenge because we have to go when its not too cold in the evenings and not too hot in the evenings... otherwise one of us can't sleep. And we love camping! haaha
