All life is positioned between the earth and sky (infinity). All of life seems to be reaching for that infinity as it grows towards the sun. Human life takes this a step further and reaches towards infinity often, through a spiritual or other conduits. But regardless of the effort that life makes, when it is over, it always returns to the earth.
This is interesting to me because I grew up in northwestern Iowa. There we were considered to be in the plains, and if you drove a bit north and east you'd see prairie, but not like this. Your prairie is so barren of trees. Iowa's prairie, at least in my memory, had more trees. This struck me as I was going through your photos in my messages (yeah, I'm really backed up!) and I wanted to tell you that. Hugs, Anj
The picture is a bit misleading. Manitoba Prairie has a lot of tree cover, in fact, it is almost impossible to get a picture of true prairie. To do that... one must go west to Saskatchewan. There the land is truly flat and barren. This particular image was carefully planned so that the placement of the tree excluded a lot of the background. It is not that we don't have stretched of prairie, but years ago (in the 30's and 40's), wind breaks were planted to prevent soil erosion. So in a way, the prairie has been modified in most places here to protect it.
Sounds a lot like my part of Iowa. There are lots of open fields, but there are lots of windbreaks too. I hope the people up there realized sooner about wind erosion than folks in Iowa did. Last I heard they'd lost over half the top soil in a lot of places. I so enjoy your photos! Hugs, Anj
